James Ferdinand Izlar papers, 1863-1912.

Civil War items consist of muster roll, 1 May 1863, of Edisto Rifle Company [25th South Carolina Volunteer Light Infantry]; photocopy of diary, 15 Jan. - 5 Mar. 1865, describing Federal assault on Fort Fisher, near Wilmington, N.C., where Izlar was captured, his imprisonment at Fort Columbus (Governor's Island, N.Y.), and his reaction to news of Gen. Sherman's advance across South Carolina. Printed circular letter, 1877, Orangeburg, S.C., to Democratic Club, re nomination of Dr. A.S. Hydrick by the Republican Convention and soliciting support of regular nominee of the Democratic Party, signed by Izlar as chairman and F.A. Schiffley, secretary; and typed copy of obituary, 26 May 1912.
